Srinagar, February 22 (KNO) : Terming Kashmir as a basic issue of contention between the two nuclear powers of the sub-continent, Hurriyat Conference (G) chairman, Syed Ali Geelani Friday said that unrealistic attitude of Indian leadership regarding this globally accepted political dispute and dealing it only militarily has created death and destruction in whole state and if this problem is not solved not only Indo-Pak subcontinent but global peace and stability is under sever threat which may culminate in the world’s biggest human catastrophe. Geelani in a statement issued to KNO said that Jammu and Kashmir is not merely a territorial dispute between the two neighboring countries, but is an issue of survival for more than 1.5 million people. “It has always threatened the peace of the whole sub-continent creating a situation of uncertainty and political turbulence leading to a war like situation whenever there is any incident on either side. Unless this bone of contention is addressed according to the wishes and aspirations of its natives, permanent peace and stability will remain a distant dream,” he said. Commenting on the prevailing situation where every corner of India is a no go area for Kashmiries, where a witch-hunt of Kashmiries is on peak throughout length and breadth of India and helpless Kashmiries are tortured, humiliated, ruthlessly beaten with judicial onslaught registering sedition cases against them, he said that “fascist forces through their uncontrolled goons get sadistic pleasure by repeatedly threatening our existence.” “Time and again such events prove, beyond doubt, that forceful and unholy togetherness can never cement any bonds between them. Such bonding is so fragile that even a slight breeze disrupts and disbands it,” he said. Geelani said that “conscious, sincere, well read and visionary Indians are well aware of the fact that despite using iron hand, military might, local regimes and vast intelligence network for last long 7 decades miserably and desperately failed to crush the freedom sentiment of Kashmiris and they utterly failed to Indianise Kashmiris and in future also they will not be able to contain and control our urge for freedom.” He appealed global community including the conscious and patriotic Indians to come forward and raise their voice to safeguard Kashmiries and help their own nation not to get fragmented the same way as the fate of USSR in the recent past. He further warned if good sense will not prevail upon them then biggest catastrophe of humanity is on cords and hardly matters which country mourns more deaths. Meanwhile, paying tributes to slain youth of Sopore encounter, Geelani said that these brave youth are sacrificing their today for the freedom of land. “We salute our martyrs,” said Geelani and added that “it is stubborn attitude of India that precious lives are being snatched from already subjugated and suppressed people of occupied state.” While blaming ‘stubborn attitude of Indian leadership’ for continuous bloodshed, Geelani said that “their denial and unconcern is the sole reason for this unabated bloodshed in Jammu and Kashmir and reiterating his stand that the UN resolutions guarantee the peaceful and amicable solution of this long standing dispute in accordance with the aspirations of people of Jammu and Kashmir.”(KNO)
